Director Anthony Hines contacted DRONESURF to produce all the aerial cinematography for the feature film ROBOTS, shot on location in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The team pre-produced the shots and worked with A-list actors to achieve them on a closed set.
DRONESURF delivered critical shots for the film, recorded the footage in CinemaDNG raw, coordinated film permitting on Native American lands, and contributed to post-production of the aerial sequences. According to the director, the drone work gave the film "a big budget feel."

Engineering challenge
Raw CinemaDNG acquisition from a drone platform is a data-rate and thermal problem before it is a cinematography problem — sustained write speeds, disciplined media handling, and heat management in the New Mexico high desert.
Permitting ran on two parallel tracks. Filming on Native American lands is granted by tribal authority, which is separate from FAA airspace approval, so both clearances had to be secured independently before the closed set could be flown.
